Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies

VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies), formerly known as the Association of German Electrical Engineers, was founded in 1893 by Mr. Werner von Siemens. It is one of the few founding members of the IEC standardization organization established in 1906.

Headquartered in Frankfurt, with representative offices in Berlin and Brussels, VDE has 36,000 members, including 1,600 companies and institutional entities as well as 8,000 students. It consists of five technical and scientific societies (ITG, ETG, DGBMT, GMM, GMA) and two standardization committees and forums (DKE, FNN). VDE is one of the largest professional technical association in Europe, and the largest industry association in the fields of electrical, electronic, and information technologies in Europe. It plays a direct role in the development of German national standards.Every year, VDE organizes around 1,600 events with up to 70,000 participants, and has working groups at more than 60 universities.

The VDE Testing and Certification Institute, founded in 1920 and part of the VDE, is committed to “Made in Germany” quality testing. This means evaluating electronic and electrical components as well as complete devices with regard to safety, lifecycle, and environmental stability. From the smallest components to household, commercial, and industrial electronic and electrical systems and complete products, safety has always been our top benchmark in testing.
